FORESIGHT OR ERROR?

BBC reports the erroneous analysis (partly based on a false representation of the Twin Towers' structure) two years before the NIST [National Institute of Science and Technology] report published exactly the same inaccurate misrepresentation of events - mostly retracted by 2008 - although not by the BBC.

NIST are on record acknowledging that the jet fuel burnt off in "a few minutes". (NB jet-fuel is a less volatile liquid than petrol/gasoline)

NIST have retracted the "Pancake" theory - the theory that the impact of floors from above falling on floors below caused instant collapse on the floors thus impacted, causing the buildings to collapse symmetrically at near freefall speed, neatly into their own footprint. The BBC have not reported NIST’s retraction.

WTC [World Trade Center] architectural drawings, photographs and film evidence show the structure using an immensely strong core of 47 massive steel columns to bear the majority of the weight with a lighter mesh of steel surrounding the open plan floors. "It was like a mosquito net," one engineer said, "you could poke holes in it and not weaken it significantly".

Temperatures at 800C

But as fires raged in the towers, driven by aviation fuel, the steel cores in each building would have eventually reached 800C - hot enough to start buckling and collapsing.
(NB: The BBC diagram below is highly inaccurate and misleading. The dimension of the core was significantly larger and was not of "reinforced concrete" but immensely stronger solid steel. Beams are horizontal members not vertical)

The protective concrete cladding on the cores would have been no permanent defence in these extraordinary circumstances - keeping the intense heat at bay for only a limited timespan.

The BBC grossly misrepresents dimensions and structure of the 47 core steel columns.

"It was the fire that killed the buildings. There's nothing on earth that could survive those temperatures with that amount of fuel burning," said structural engineer Chris Wise.

"The columns would have melted, the floors would have melted and eventually they would have collapsed one on top of each other."

The buildings' construction manager, Hyman Brown, agreed that nothing could have saved them from the inferno.

"But steel melts, and 24,000 gallons (91,000 litres) of aviation fluid melted the steel. Nothing is designed or will be designed to.

Whoever granted Knapton's professorship needs to question why he can not access a simple table setting out the temperature of burning kerosene [jet fuel] & the temperature necessary to "melt" steel.

Why is this inaccurate information still, as of Sept. 16th 2008, still on the BBC web site uncorrected nor with apologies for misleading viewers?


These drawings show more accurately the structure of the steel columns.


The top illustration indicates what may have been typical dimensions and thickness of the smaller core columns, about half-way up the tower. The outermost rows of core columns were apparently considerably larger, measuring 54 inches wide.
